Thanks for the encouragement Jim and Chris

escape

Thanks fellas

Just in case they don't win they have a whaler and a rather drunken carley float to fight over. Don't know why but a mast always makes a ship start to feel right.

Still bothered that B gun would have a hard job turning broadside but the rails at the front of that deck appear to be able to be pulled out of the sockets attached to the side of the deckhouse.

Wotcher, bazzer!:)

I've been tied up with work for a bit, but I'm glad I checked in tonight...she's really looking awesome, mate! Moving along very well, it seems.

As always, looking forward to seeing more when you can.

Cheers!
Jim

masts

A first for me I managed to Superglue these bits together without being permanently attached to one of them with a bit of luck I can do the same on the crossties. Depth charge reload racks and mortors to follow then it's back to yards of railings for this and Spruance.

Radar array

Added a couple of the radars the mast head one is made from a piece of railing wrapped with dark silk thread for the mesh and secured with a dab or two of pva. The mounting bracket for the radar dish on top of the range finder is greatly simplified.

Very nice Barry. Your build has me itching to do a USN DD.

Wonderful job. I look forward to seeing more.

You need to print one link this in "dazzle" cammo.

Dazzle

Thanks Elb a dazzle pattern would be fun but the only pics I have seen are just a boring broad line of dark blue. Any ideas where I could find some info.

Railings

I have finally admitted to myself that I am no good at setting railings into the deck so I have gone back to 4 line rails with the bottom one stuck to the deck. I think they look better wish I had done it before but I guess I am just stubborn idiot. (Please ignore where I just bent the painting holder to stand them up)

Just a tip if you make rails by wrapping wire round a wooden former trim them with a Stanley knife blade or similar, using side cutters is useless.

Got round to painting the copper bits as well

The dazzle picture is a complete cock up and I have no idea of the colour it should be at the moment

Nice handrail work Barry. I like the bottom rail on the deck look. I've never been successful with just the posts alone. That bottom rail tends to hold things in better form.

I've got your USN cammo measure fix right here:
http://nautilusmodels.com/camouflage.htm

It has every cammo measure immaginable. If you're not familiar with the USN colors, you can go here to get a good expanation and color chips...

http://www.steelnavy.com/usnchips.htm

I use these two resources extensively. They have kept me on the straight and narrow path for a while now.

I hope that helps. I love a good dazzle pattern!

Dazzle

Thanks for the kind words mates

I have caught Tim's desease had to try the dazzle properly just to see it's actually of a Sumner class destroyer nearest I could find use the colour swatches you suggested Elb looks like it would be fun. I would have to make a few mods to the Gearing to take it back to that period.........not too many though. Anyway see what you think

The crappy pic is the texture mask for metso

I like it! That's a step in the right direction.

I think the dazzle pattern really brings out the character of the ship.

Keep at it Barry, this is good stuff.

Wotcher, bazzer!:)

It's been a while since I was able to check in, and I'm glad I did tonight!

Extremely brilliant addition adding the dazzle paint...and superb work on the railings you've added. I just love the way you keep pushing on, adding bit to bit and slowing but surely producing a superb build! Keep at it, mate!

Cheers!

Now that looks great Barry! The dazzle scheme really brings it to life. I've wondered why more commercial ship models aren't printed with cammo... I've seen a few, but they're firmly in the minority.

upper decks

Taken it back (almost) to about 1944 realised I had only put twin bofors should be quads just thought the contrast between met and pep was worth a showing. Showing deck camo
