As some of you may have (or may have not) noticed, I’ve been quite inactive in the paper modeling world for the previous months. And it is quite possible that this inactivity will continue in the future.
Life brings changes. Some good, some bad.
In the past months many things have happened. Most notably, my father's cancer. Since September-October he suffered acute pains in the back. And he lost the mobility of his legs in December. The doctors found a tumor embedded in his spine. Unfortunately it was a malign tumor. A myeloma. That is, cancer in the medulla.
He used to take care of my almost blind mother. Now it has been my turn to take care of both of them.
This situation changed our lives completely. It’s been a very hard time, full of challenges.
We started chemotherapy this week. Hopefully it will work properly. The initial treatment will be six months, so we still have a long way to go. But he is optimistic, and so we all are. Doctors say that if he defeats this cancer he may live many years more. He is only 63. And considering that his mother (my grandma) is still alive with more than 80, and his grandmother lived well beyond 90, he may live a long time if he defeats cancer.
But you know: cancer is unpredictable, and we can not feel safe now. He may die because of this, or he may live. We don’t know to which side the scale is pointing.
This all means I have not been able to make anything else in the past months. All the time has been devoted to take them to the hospital, and to be in charge of the house. Chances are that I won't have any time to make any paper models again in the following year.
I still visit the forums. But I don't comment for lack of time. I still enjoy coming here to see what you are building. However, any kind of artistic production I can do is paused until things get better.
In the box awaitig for completion are the ribbed Se5a and the Savoia. I don't know when I will finish them. If ever.
Hope you all have a good weekend, and I wish you the best.
Kind regards,
Ruben Andres Martinez
