Hello, I have recently purchased three of the "Old Timer" 4-4-0's( the ones made by Rivarossi and IHC) which I will probably repaint and detail out somewhat. But I would also like to install new or upgraded motors with better running characteristics than the original ones. Does anyone know a good source for better motors for these locos, or a specific motor? Sorry if this has been covered before, but I am new here. Thanks, John.

HI John and welcome aboard....check out this site....they may have suitable motors...I don't think that anything is going to be an exact replacement but a small high quailty can motor that will fit in the available space should do the trick.

Welcome, John --- particularly as you are interested in period modeling. There aren't enough of us on here who prefer 19th century railroading.....

Vic's advice is right on. NWSL is probably about the best source of motors --- and gearing.
