ok ok ok...skinning of the turret...it was with a bad feeling I started to skin the tower. The way to do it is unlike anything I have done beforre since there are no flat surfaces here. And the skin are divided in several parts. And of course with me not quite understand polish instructions and the messy drawings I was a bit nervous before starting the process.
Started with the right side and the back.
Next I have to do is to make the barrel, since it has to go into the "hinge" before skinning the left side. The barrel is about 25cm long with a diameter of 12,5mm. Problem is of course to roll such long tube....so I have to come up with a solution of making some kind of inner structure and then put the barrelskin on that...or else im afraid im getting a wrinkled barrel...
Also experimented with the blue opticals...with some ovehead foil and blue spirit pencil. I think the result turned out pretty well Please tell me what you think about it!!
Will try this on the rest of the periscopes and the other opticals here and there.
Finished the barrel...monsterpiece..32cm long. Longest barrel I ever made!
First the skin is on..had to come up with a solution for something to use as inner structure. So after a lot of searching for something that was 12,5mm in diameter, I found some pencils that matched the criteria. So I wrapped the skin around the pencils (3 stk in a row)
Then it was to make the "adjustable bands" around the barrel. and the coned part in the rear end.
Barrel done..32cm long and 13mm in diameter
Closeups of the bands6
Back and front
And mounted on the turret. Rest of the skinning can start
Flare system. Need to have some small side projects going on while studying the drawings
Then I got to the point where I had to put the rest of the skin on the turret...and as you can see, its not an easy task to get it to look good
The last skin is big..round and not easy to handle, as in where to exact put it...have I cut the right cuts along the side?.
So I was studying and thinking..and then just went for it. Glued it on in a line from front to back, then worked my way outwards. Got it placed and glued in a way that I found satisfying
Also made the front covercloth..
Next was the other hatch. Still a lot of detailing to do, but the main structure is done.
Then I started on some optical device...Will finish this part next week
Project status Im so happy that the turret is skinned...
Hello guys!!
Slowly getting there...with this hatch it was not so many challenges good partsfit and construction.
Ok drawings
Did replace the periscope with some painted foil, the rest is stock parts.
All hinges works of course
Next task is to get the hatch glued to the turret
Next is the outside armour on the turret
Stay tuned!!
If someone nitpicked that turret, with those magnificent hatches, they would have to show some proof that it could be done better. I'd like to see that. It looks amazing to me.
Working on detailing the turret...will take me several weeks to complete the turret...A huge amount of parts to make and place.
