Great site and just in time too. I'm currently wiring six 2mm LEDs into the light sockets on a Chessie GP35 I'm working on.

I too was just starting to look for options to replace the nice light bulbs in a few of my units.

One other thot on constant lighting for cabeese is to rig up some kinda voltage regulator to charge a nicad, and run the LEDs off the nicad. A switch of some sort should be used to prevent "over-discharging" the nicad to the point where it swaps polarity and renders it useless. The idea is, once it's turned on, the lights stay on all the time, regardless of track voltage.

Would you know if Radio Shack carried that transistor?

Thanks for that link, Jon! I'm gonna have to get me some of those...
I found that Jameco carries them here. A search on the Radio Shack website showed nothing...
Jon, I think I have a circuit diagram somewhere for using a rechargeable battery as you mentioned; I'll have to dig it out and draw it up so it can be posted here.

[shameless plug]If anyone needs any 3mm bright white LED's, I have some to sell...been selling them on eBay for several months now. They run about 4000mcd in brightness[/shameless plug]
