Free Model #3 HMS Dreadnought 1:400
Hello
This is my build thread for Free Model Competition #3. Since last free model
competition I started some models but didn't have enough time to work with
them. Now I hope that, thanks to the contest I will have the motivation
to finish the ship.
I decided to build the HMS Dreadnought available as a free download from
DigitalNavy. The only
difference is that I will resize it to 1:400 scale (the digitalnavy is 1:700).
There was a build thread of rescaled HMS Dreadnought on this forum:
Bill Jones : Digital Navy 1:250 Dreadnought (1906)-Build. There is a lot of stuff there that I will
use. First there is a download link of 1:250 turrets prepared by Roman
(from DigitalNavy). There is also an information that we can use V108
(other free DigitalNavy kit) guns as small guns for Dreadnought. There
are also links to plans and pictures of the ship. This is important because
I'm planning to build a full hull version of the ship. The DigitalNavy model
is only a waterline so I will have to prepare the underwater part and provide
it to everyone as a free download.
There is a lot of other information in internet that can be used. There is
a great site The Dradnought Project. You can find there a 3D model of the ship. There is a
Steel Navy 1:350 HMS Dreadnought by Steven Backer gallery. This one is not a card model
but I like it very much. The scale is very simillar and there is a lot of useful
information.
I always wanted to build that ship. If you read about battleships you
always see pre-dreadnoughts, dreadnoughts and this is The HMS Dreadnought.
You can find more about the ship in wikipedia.
I will not start the build from the hull because I have to prepare one.
There is a risk that I will not be able to do this and then I will build
the waterline version. At the first place I will start building the turrets and small guns.
