Not sure if it helps but in the past I have use my wifes embossing machine to do diamond plate.
I have had a quick look and you can get a hexagonal patern similar to your needs to suit her machine, so if you know anyone that does scrapbooking you might have some luck there.

I found a recipe for making rice glue, I read it is used a lot for Japanese paper craft & for making kanzashi (traditional Japanese hair ornaments).

I have made the lower hudson valley robot but was thinking of doing it again, next time it will be a lot bigger with more detail & have some color.
pick something that interests you, a structure, a car, an animal, may be a boat, whatever.
Then find a simple model with good instructons, have fun with it, lean from your mistakes (if any), make it a few times if you want.
