Hi all, just getting started in z scale, yes I'll need to ask lots of questions, so far I have all Micro Trains stuff (gp35 UP) and some Full Throttle cars, this is my 1st ever layout and I want to keep it fairly simple, so far I'm figuring on about a 48x 32 area is this gonna be big enough? thanks--CHET

Big enough for what? There's no such thing as a minimum size for a given scale. To do a given thing in a given scale may require a certain amount of space. 2'8"x4' in Z is equivalent to 6'8"x10' in HO, if that gives you any idea.

In effect, it depends on what your goal is: myself I'm building a Z scale layout in a space where I could build an N scale empire or an honest HO layout because two of my purposes are to have only broad curves (mine are 20"/50cm minimum radius), and running 80-car trains.

One of the advantages of Z scale is that it allows either empires or suitcase sized layouts.
