Check out the price on the box! 35 cents!!!! Found this on ebay, wonder how old it is? Anyone with a good guess???

35 cents... nice. i wonder what it looks like complete.

Comet Model railroad kits doesn't show up when i search for it though, i usualy get links to the walthers passenger car. cool stuff though.

sign1 Yeah it is! May be a rarity though for collectors of kits like this though. I'm almost tempted to bid just for the sake of having it years from now. :)

I suspect it is probably WW2 or between WW2 & the Korean War. At that time Athearn was offering their all metal kits. I'm not sure the exact date, but sometime in the early 1950's Athearn went to molded plastic for their kits. A few wooden kits hung on for a while afterward, but generally not with printed paper sides. I suspect it might have been made during the war when metals were rationed. There are collectors of those old kits, most are collected unbuilt in original boxes.

Seems to me I remember those kits from the 1940's. Either during or just after WWII. For a kid to get that 35 cents to buy the kit is about equivalent to getting ten dollars now.
