Wiring Lionel accessory

I am working mostly with MTH equipment. I have an IR controller which I want to wire a Lionel signal light to. This involves three wires. Unfortunately, the Lionel signal contacts are numbered 1, 2, and 3. There are no instructions, so I don't know which one is supposed to be the "common" or "ground" etc.

Jon: Welcome to the gauge.
Fast way to check is to get some test leads from the transformer, turn it partly on and tuch pairs of terminals. Two pairs will give one bright bulb, the other pair will give two dim bulbs.
There's a commercial site called Olsen's Toys (or similar) that has instruction sheets online.
