Boxed sets are a MAJOR rip-off unless it's for a small kid, or someone who may not take to the hobby seriously.

Pick the type of loco you want in the roadname you want. Can hardly do that with a set! Get a decent MRC powerpack, nickle silver track, railjoiners, terminal joiners, pick the rolling stock in the "flavour" you want and you're in business.

I guess it all depends on what your looking for and in what scale.Athearn has decent HO sets.Walthers does also.LifeLike has some sets in Nscale using their better flywheel equipt locos now.Micro-Trains has some in Nscale using ATLAS,KATO,and or LifeLike locos.These should all be available at your local hobbyshop or online.
