I have on old kato RS11 which am starting to have problems with.

it appears that the plating on the wheels has almost worn off and
operation is fairly erratic - a lot of light flickering and constant stopping
on areas of track that other locos have no problems with.

the wiring has checked out OK so am assuming the wheels are the trouble

have tried KATO and ATLAS websites but they don`t seem to have
replacement wheelsets.

has anyone had their wheels replated?
any other ideas?

thanks loren and russ for your replies.

I will look into the wheel issue.

I also might try to make some extra pickups to slide on the rails.

will keep you posted .

I just checked Walther's web site for Jay Bee wheel sets and found this page.

www.walthers.com -- search page

It would appear the company is still in business. About 5 years ago I was told by local hobby shop personel that the company was out of business, but I think the guy was mistaken. The Northwest Shortline wheel sets are nickel-silver plated over brass, the Jay Bee's are solid nickel silver, so the Jay Bee wheels sets are much better products.
