What about a can motor?

It would be helpful to know the difference between a can motor which seems to be the Cadillac of electric train motors and the others used by the manufacturers. I have heard a lot about it on The Gauge but really don't know exactly what it is, or what makes it so wonderful. What does it look like compared to the "quote/unquote" inferior motors? For example, what engines would I find on eBay with a can motor?

A can motor is sealed in a small metal can, but does not necessairly gaurantee quality. Best bet is to e-mail the seller and ask and/or stick to quality manufacturers and high end lines. Really best bet, IMHO, for loco's is forget e-bay and go to trainworld.com. Look at the LL P2K's for $30 to 40 new. Same models on e-bay usually go for more than that used.
