Is it worth it to add smoke and lighting to a basic caboose? This would involve changing a truck to add electrical contacts, and adding a smoker and chimney. Are such parts available?

Or is it worth it to spring for the $60 to $80 for one with these features.

The truck is available and costs about $12. A smoke unit for a locomotive also costs about $12. You'd probably have to improvise a chimney with Plastruct or K&S tubing. By the time you buy all that plus a bulb and socket, you're looking at $30 in parts. So it comes down to enjoyment factor. If you'll enjoy it, why not? If it sounds like something you'll dread doing, then it's probably better to spend the extra $30-$50.
