Season 4 should be great, lots of ends getting wrapped up....5th cylon?

Hope to start my very first model this weekend and get my BSG fleet going!

Ya I keep thinking Starbuck too but some how that just seems too obvious, I think it's a red herring.

How many did you loose and how?

5th Cylon? I'm betting on President Roslyn.

That sounds good! I'll be at work all night, got it recording. I was going to try catching it on the web today, they had it on at 12 EST but I missed it, Doh! Heard it was good. Can't wait to get off work.

Got some 110 lb paper last night from Wally World and an exacto knife. Looking forward to my first build.

Do Cylons get cancer? I keep going back and forth, Roslyn, Starbuck it'll probably be someone we least expect..... Tom or something like that.

I saw an interview that said that the BSG last supper picture floating around out there explains a lot. I don't get anything from it... the interview also said that if you carefully watch all the episode you'd know who it is..... again, I'm clueless.

I think I'll stop looking in this thread, spoilers and all.

Is it possible to have a thread apart from the model thread to talk about series 4. That way it won't spoil the story line for us Brits. And we can still look in on the models.

Started my first ever paper model today, The Valkyrie. I selected it because of the relatively few pages, compared to some of the other BSG models and lack of curves. I'm having fun but I really am bad at this, and there will be a lot of trial and error.

Biggest thing for me is getting the folds done correctly and in a manner that doesn't mess up other parts of the model in the way I'm holding it. I'm really just making this up as I go so I'm sure there are some tips and tricks I can pick up from further reading on the board.

It's not always obvious to me how pieces are supposed to go together and some of my folds aren't lining up that great, but hey it's all a learning experience.

    Hey guys,

I've just spent four hours reading through the 59 pages of this thread and I'm thrilled! I just finished my first paper model build and it took me all of 6 months (Terry Pratchett's Unseen University). It was something I picked up b/c I'm a huge Pratchett fan, not b/c of paper modeling. But I really came to love it and having completed the build, like it as a project.

I'm a new BSG fan (wasn't old enough to watch TOS) and this is going to be my next build project, so I was very happy to find this thread.

Given that I came off a 14 hour day and then read this thread, I'm probably confused as hell about what ships are done. Would someone be willing to post a list of the complete fleet list, which ships are done, and which you amazing guys are planning on creating? I could probably get it from earlier posts, but, quite honestly, I simply don't have the time to page through this until after the semester is done and I finish grading exams.

Finally, what do you guys recommend for paperweight? I've read 110 lb stock is good, but since you guys are the designers, I figured I'd ask you all.

  11. Welcome wes glad to have ya! All of the completed ships are in the download section marked tv shows/Battlestar galictica. You will find enough to keep you busy for awhile. As for paper weight I use 110lb stock but have seen some people use 65lb to make bending easier. I look foward to seeing some of your builds.:thumb:

Ok, despite the complete lack of time I have, my OCD has pulled me into collecting the models as completed so far. Here's what I found.

11:43 a.m. 4/15/08: Updated with corrections mentioned below.

    Paragon's Models [4]:
    - Blackbird
    - Cylon Basestar
    - Viper Mk II (Mod of Jay's)
    - Viper Mk VII (Mod of Jay's)

    Jay's Models [8]:
    - Battlestar Galactica
    - Battlestar Pegasus
    - Battlestar Valkyrie
    - Colonial One
    - Colonial Raptor
    - Cylon Raider
    - Viper Mk II
    - Viper Mk VII

    Nothing, sjsquirrel, skupilkinson (others?):

    Completed [13]:
    - Astral Queen
    - Celestra
    - Cloud 9
    - Colonial Movers
    - Colonial Shuttle
    - Colonial Tube Ship
    - Cylon Heavy Raider
    - Defender
    - Gemini Traveler
    - Liners [6]
    - Mining Ship
    - Platform Ship
    - Ring Ship (Rising Star, etc)

    In Progress or Upcoming [6]:
    - Battlestar Galactica (in progress)
    - Gemini Transport
    - Refinery Ship
    - Agro ship
    - Large scale Viper with lot's of detail
    - Battlestar Pegasus

Any others I'm missing? I'm in the middle of writing exams for my students and then grading them until the end of the semester, so I probably won't get to start building until May, but when I do, I'll keep it posted.

Also, I'm planning on putting together some directions on a more step-by-step basis as I build and using photos of the build in progress to illustrate. Once I get that done, I'll PDF them and they can be added, if anyone finds them useful. I'm no designer, but I'd like to contribute in any way I can.

Not to nit pick, but we did a Heavy Raider. ;) And I'm pretty sure there are 6 different Liners.

And to backtrack to what paulhbell said, I totally agree buddy! I also stopped coming here as often due to the spoilers now floating in this thread. Not to be a wet blanket but I'm a UK guy too and still haven't had a chance to catch Razor! Let alone the forth coming 4th season!

So please guys think of us eh? ;)

Back on topic now, sorry about that. :)

Funny you should mention that. I was going to design some display stands, especially for the Big G and Beast(Pegasus).

Shouldn't be difficult to take the paper pattern and use styrene instead to create masters. If that's what you meant?

No nitpicking taken. In fact, that kind of detail is what I needed.

I added the other versions of the liners in to the total (from what I understand, there are 4 with continuity markings and 2 with designer markings. Is that right?).

Also, as far as I can tell, the sheets for the Cylon Heavy Raider from Paragon's site and from this site are the same. Are they done by the same person and just posted twice? And if so, which group created it?

    Thanks for the assist.

I can't apeak for Paragon's version as I've not seen it, but the one that we(sjsquirrel, nothing and myself)completed was done by me. Well,it was cleaned by SJ, then unfolded and laid out by me.

The Liners have 5 official markings and one texture for the orifinal designer of the mesh(Coxxon).

Original credit for these models goes to Coxxon as he created the entire fleet set. We took those meshes, converted them and used them for papermodels. SJ is the main chief here as he cleans all the meshes prior to use to get rid of the intersection and what not. ;)

    Ref sheets

Here are the reference sheets for what's been done from the BSG fleet pack. As for the stuff available on other sites or from other sources, I haven't had time to keep track, so thanks for collecting that list.

What we've been doing is focusing on the ships that are not yet available elsewhere (as far as we know). Later we will go back and do additional versions of the ones that are also available elsewhere just to give people more options.

    Welcome aboard,

Yes, it is the same file, simply posted twice. I posted it originally for the creator because he was having trouble uploading it here.

Please promise me you won't use that Blackbird model, its incredibly innacurate.

Being brand new to card modeling and being a huge fan of BSG, this thread and the work you guys are doing on the ships is just awesome.

On a more frustrating note; I have spent the better part of two weeks working on the Valkyrie model and threw it in the can today. There was so much wrong with this model I don't even know where to begin.

I was working with 110lb paper and for me I was having a lot of problems with the folds. Even when I thought they were all lined up nice and neat they would end up being out of square or slightly twisted and would not match up with the other parts I built very well.

I originally started with super glue but regular glue seems to work better and allows for more movement. I tried the super glue at first because I could tack a part and it allowed me to work on another area with that bit held in place. The super glue did however set up like a rock and if you got too much on the piece made it inflexable and unworkable.

The landing bays were a complete joke and after I saw them connected to the pylons and how poorly they matched up, that's when I decided to toss the whole thing.

*Deep Breath* So I'll start anew. I'll give the 65lb paper a shot and try to take things more slowly. No super glue, really try to get a grasp on how things should line up better, make my folds more "square" and Ask questions because you're all a nice group of guys!
