....and the final model.
What I am missing here is a stand or at least the feed of the fighter. But.... the paper model I made has approximately the same dimentions.
So I used the paper stand for the plastic model.
Summary: really easy - but a good reference for papermodels or for plastic models which have to be painted.

Oh, I thought that the Ertl one is the better one - good to know.
I have the Ertl one also at home - it is a future Project, but now I think I will return soon to
paper and BSG ;-))

The overall shape of the Ertl is good. It is the detail which is causing the trouble. Especially the top and front guns are too crude which made me cut them off and replace them with machine guns from an Apache mini kit. The cross-shaped pieces at the end of the exhausts and the whole pieces forming the "cage" behind the engines are much too thick. It took me WEEKS to sand and scrape them thinner. I made them half as big as they first were, including the circle shape at the end (that was a HELL of work, I tell ya).

These two pics should show what I mean (I don't want to hijack your thread but I'd like to show you what I've done to give you some inspiration). The pics were taken many years ago when I did not have that fancy camera I have today which explains the bad quality and the use of a flash. The red stripe around the R2 unit was a piece of the decal from one of the Ertl X-Wings cut to shape.

Very nice, looks plastic though. Of course, it is plastic, but that's one of the problems with plastic, very hard to greeble into life, though I have seen it done. Nice job!!

... One thing just came into my mind: We still do NOT have a proper PAPER model of the Y-Wing yet. Something that lives up to imcold's X-Wing, I mean..! ;)

Starbuck,
I have that one too, it's a really nice kit. Will you be weathering it? I used Apple Barrel black to make a wash - A little at a time, and it really came to life and brought out all the detail - These Revell kits always get ragged on, but with a little work they can be great!
The Bandai series is by far the best sci fi models ever, if you're a fan of the Y-Wing, their kit is really worth every penny.
RF and Gixergs, great work on those two!

@Revell-Fan You made a very valid point. This is a really good looking fighter in and of itself, and it does deserve a GOOD and DETAILED paper model to be designed. I think that if someone (like @imcold) would pick this up and create a model along the same level as imcold's X-Wing, I think that people would really go after it and have fun with it (I know that I would).

I used a lot of flat finishes to get rid of the plastic look. No "Y-Wing? I wonder "Y" not? :)

I like to pop in and check up on RB and see what's happening here, after all you're family too :). Things here family wise are a mixed bag the inlaws coming off worse at the moment but the wife seems to be tootling on OK and with the bucket and pulley feeding system I've invented I can post in here occasionally.

Thank you Zathros I have started a thread for it as I don't want to fill up Starbucks thread with anymore pictures of my effort. I not to bad at the moment bit stressed thanks to noisy neighbours but at least the wife doesn't seemed to bothered by them.
