I've finished the bulk of the model. Now it's time to tackle the "globe" turret things.

Nice work! Are you going edge-color the red areas? Also, what are you plans for doing the globes?

You bet. The white marks on the actual wing parts are meant to give it weathering detail, but its a little too white and I will touch it up with paint. As far as the globes go, I have the parts printed out on transparent plastic, so I will try to assemble as is. Otherwise, my neighbor owns a bead shop and feels she has clear beads in the right diameter.

Ok, not the biggest update. I painted the cut lines and added a few "overlap" parts. The globe turrets are a real bugger. The transparent parts work, but detract from the model. I have been to a couple bead shops and searched the web, but have not been able to find 1 1/8" clear beads/globes. Any ideas?

I think the globes look really good. It may be since you are so close to the model they seem more distracting than they really are. :)

There are perfectly-sized 1 1/4" clear round salt and pepper shakers available at Hobby Lobby. They're specifically made for customization. The only conceivable problem is that they're bisected by a mold seam, but considering the alternatives that's not a bad trade-off. The little refill port underneath is also the perfect size for a laser dish. I bought a couple of pairs for just this reason.

I don't know if HL still carries them, but if you ever head up that way they're worth looking for.

Thanks for the input, guys. There are a lot of options online, unfortunately for the 1 1/8" size that would work, you have to buy in bulk......like 1000 pieces. My daughter told me to look at gum ball/toy machines. I will check out Hobby Lobby.

If you go the gumball machine route, make sure the little capsules are made of styrene, not PFE, which won't respond to glue. An easy way to tell is that PFE is slightly cloudy.

Whatever you end up doing, I think this model is great. To be honest, I think a sphere would have given intense reflection problems and there is something functionally right about how the bubble is form now. Just my opinion. :)
