Hello,
I'm very new to DCC....
My buddy just bought a Proto 2000 Sw9 loco at a train show today. The box indicates that there is no sound or DCC included but that it could be upgraded with some work.

Which decoder and sound system would work best for this loco? He has the digitrax super chief system, and I'll be getting the MRC Prodigy wireless soon. We can program on either system.

Thanks for any help!

Hi...Does the box say "DCC Ready"..?? If it does, all you need is a decoder (of whatever brand will control this loco), with an 8-pin plug. The plug will connect to a built-in plug in the loco.
If it does not say "DCC Ready" you will have to "hardwire" the decoder. That gets to be slightly more involved....
Good luck..!!!

If it like the Proto 200 SW-9/1200 I have, the decoder I bought but haven't installed yet is the NCE SW9-SR decoder. a replacement for the light board. As far as putting sound in it, there is VERY LITTLE room for a sound decoder and a speaker in it.
