Having a few wiring issues. Please see the thread for details.

So far it appears the grade at CARDIAC HILL and very sharp curves will be tolerable for the shay dragging three log cars or a single converted MTL troop sleeper pressed into passenger service. The Atlas GP-9 can negotiate the sharp radius curves on the mainline just fine.

I like this little layout project! More when I get the wiring sorted out...

How tight is the curve going to be at the future trestle, Brewer? If you're planning to use the Atlas N Scale Shay, it is reported to require a 9 1/4" radius. (or is it 9 3/4"?)

I plan to run three blocks: mainline, disston branch, lower yard.

I have not measured that curve, but have previously laid test track to make sure it would work, which it did. BTW, I discovered that it worked better with the cheap atlas code 80 rail. Code 55 looks so much better, but I would have had to retrofit all my rolling stock to use it since the flanges bump the ties on code 55, and the curves were much more "iffy" for the shay. Couldn't say exactly why.
