If I remember correctly, Paierschnitzel (designer of this model http://www.zealot.com/threads/star-wars-u-wing-free-paper-model.179681/#post-1013298 ) started to design this with moveable wings, but abandoned this functionalty for the sake of building simplicity.

It is fine for me, because even if model has moving parts I always choose one position and glue them permanently. Because I will never play with it and it is faster to build :) . Only if I build model as a toy, then I make it moveable. But paper models are not so good toys - too fragile, usualy doesnt last long in my experience.

It is possible to make this wings moveable. It will require some redesign of the model. Reinforcing the hull and wings and make sturdy hinges ands some gears.

Moveable wings are easy, making them move in relation to each other takes a bit more work, but is really not so hard either. :)
