In late 1979, the Rock Island of my world decided to invest some money and promote their intermodal service. Besides a significant advertising budget and public relations tour, they purchased a dozen GE U33C locomotives, and painted them in a special paint scheme for the service. Dubbed "blue shadows", these units are painted black with white and blue accents. Here one is in being tested in West Herington KS.
