I'm fairly new to scale collecting and need some help please. I recently acquired a UP 2-8-8-0 Mallet in O scale. Looks pretty right, but I've been told that it isn't 1/48 scale but O gauge (semi scale) I'm not sure  how much this source really knows. Is there a collector out there who can tell me if "Right of Way " imported semi scale brass and could this be one. Many thanks

As far as I know, it was a scale engine. Measure the top of the cab roof from the rail head and it should be 3 1/2 - 3 3/4" for a scale 14'-15' high. It should measure about 2 1/2" or a scale 10' wide on the cab or tender. I'm not sure how long it should be, but the semi scale doesn't measure up to scale in size, pun intended. :D Also, take a scale freight car and see how it looks with that. If it seems in line with the car it probably is scale in size. I'm assuming that this is a 3-Rail version?
