Saturday I took a day trip to Red Wing, MN, about an hour's drive south of the Twin cities. This picturesque town is located on the Mississippi and boasts an attractive and historic donwtown over looking a very scenic part of the river. The CP's River Division runs between the downtown buildings and the river walk. Fans like me get to see frequent trains powered by CP, IC&E, BNSF, and sometimes SOO Line locos. In addition to the trains you can see passing towboats pushing large assemblies of barges.

I plan to post a few different threads of pics about this day in Red Wing.

First, while I was standing at the Red Wing station, a loud horn blast and the ringing of the crossing guard signaled the coming of this CP unit train of tankers.

A shot of the locos as they passed by...

Even though there is always train action a-plenty in Minneapolis/St. Paul, I love Red Wing's line along the river. More to come...
