Hi guys.... I am back.....i hope
desktopsimmer - I know it is 2 years out fo date, but your clip is good and i´ve scrolled your blog wit the dropship progress and some ideas are superb (rear leg folding).
Manianez - You and all watchers, thanks for good questions...after long 2 years there will be more progress...and some final model of the dropship..(i still hope)...:)
Ive optimalized the look of the details of the model...
.....last two months in montage:
__________________________
added some details...like there is a little flap in the middle section of the tail
drop-progress-100.jpg

and some minor details in front
drop-progress-102.jpg

The LOADING RAMP case
after deep research I´ve modelled this :
RAMP_zpsbesoaako.jpg

and some sort of hydraulics :)
drop-progress-115.jpg

drop-progress-116.jpg

..Thanx to REVELL FAN for technical notes ;)

drop-progress-117.jpg

RAMP2_zpsmao2qtgb.jpg

and the final measurements with ramp opened...

REAR LEG FOLDING
And now the real challenge...thing that scaring me for years...
folding of the rear leg and the whole situation around the ladder behind the ramp
confused.gif

drop-progress-124.jpg

after four hours some solution appear
smile.gif
...finding optimal way of papermodel, real look and functionality is the hardes thing ..Folding the leg mechanism
into tail section is chapter for itself....what you think....the main rear pillar
drop-progress-125.jpg

drop-progress-126.jpg

The base (foot) of the rear leg.
drop-progress-127.jpg

That´s all for now...I hope that from this point things will be better.:Computer::angelic:

rear leg progress:
I´ve added a hydraulics to heel section ....
drop-progress-128.jpg

front section equipped with hydraulics / pipe thingee. Whole leg is simplified and functional (in certain borders :))
drop-progress-129.jpg

after all that work I´ve optimalized the leg for closed position. There are extra holders added for the heel(tail of the leg), and I maked smaller that ponton like things on the sides of the leg.
and the picture of the whole dropship.
drop-progress-130.jpg

and I´ve finally realized why there is a hole on the bottom of the tail.....for hiding the heel of the rear leg..:hammerhead:

Thanks Zathror. AutoCad have a nice visualisation feature :)...but most of the work I am doing in this settings:
The rear leg shield:
and how to operate it together with the leg pillar.
drop-progress-132.jpg

final visualisation of the shield together with the leg... (2 hours of work)....uf
drop-progress-133.jpg

The rear leg so far....front section enlarged, pontons deformed.
drop-progress-135.jpg

and finally....my way of folded rear leg....it looks good for me :)
drop-progress-134.jpg

the hydraulics for the leg and how to put it into the space above the leg ...it´ll be another level......:)

Rhino 3D has these features also, and I have done this kind of work in AutoCad. It's your expertise that makes these Renders this nice. I have seen many other people who do not do such detailed work. I like to work in Perspective windows also. It really give you the over all view better than Orthogonic views. A lot of those Renders would make nice desktop backgrounds!! :)

zathros - If you want, just askme for some render in hi res.;)
Lee Clifton - so do I :)

..little progress...so far..:Coffee:

Jan,
It's great to see the master builder back at work on this project again!
:animated:
Enjoy what you've done so far. Love the Astro Racers as well. Looking forward to some new Astro Racers sometime.

Take care and thanks for all that you do!:)

Sky Seeker - there will be more Astro Racers ...don´t worry :)

I ve drilled deeper the hole for the rear leg
drop-progress-138.jpg

..and done some "serious measurements" :D

rear-leg_zps54ocrjsg.jpg

piston holder created (that orange thing with holes)
drop-progress-139.jpg

Another 3 hours of serious measurements

rear-leg2_zpsz6pslnin.jpg

The tail section is drilled trough...but as you can see from previous picture it will not be enough....

drop-progress-140.jpg

after another 3 hours i´ve evolved a piston with "mother" like ring for the rear section of the pylon of the leg. I don´t wanted the telescopic piston and decided
to go this way. One of the reasons is that: folded leg has a compact shape. negative thing is: there is an extra space needed for piston above the mechanism ( see half way closed pose)

rear-leg3_zpsnzyvkc4g.jpg

for the mid pose i had to create an extra hole in the upper engine section...( well ..the alien queen can hide in my creation for sure)

drop-progress-141.jpg

and..how is it look like....

drop-progress-142.jpg

the hardest thing is still waiting for me....the side hydraulics...(these pistons will be telescopic)....i must calculate the space for them....

FINALLY.......:Coffee::Drinks:
hydraulic side pistons are finished......I´ve done them in closed pose of the leg because of the space around the rest of the folded things. The mother-ring thingee was enlarged and reformed...
and the tail section was added for knowing the border and operation space...

drop-progress-143.jpg

Folded leg look really nice & compact.......:)
And how the whole dropship looks like.........(My rear leg nightmare is over:ass-kicking:)

drop-progress-144.jpg

enjoy.....;)

DEAD END - when deep research is waste of time

Ive created the railing on the end of the ramp...it is nice design thing...(seen on the functional miniature).
drop-progress-145.jpg

then I realized that this railing will be in collision with the ladder for a ramp..
I wanted the best from both cases, but they negate each other....I am choosing the ladder(s) case.....
PDVD_1199_zpsfdbidem8.jpg

first things first....the profile between the ramp and side enter of the dropship

drop-progress-146.jpg

there is a an odd situation about this enter point......research continues....
