We should have a lot of the problems fixed soon, there was massive damage to the server which requires a complete rebuild. We just need to bide time. More than may be comfortable, but in the end, a solid base for the forum.

@McTschegsn, It's not your browser, it's the forum, and it may eventually consume the whole forum before it gets fixed, such is the nature of these things.

I agree with you, one of the main good points here - apart, obviously, the people ;) , was Zealot's great picture management. No other forum, at least in my little experience, consent such a direct and immediate photo uploading engine. Perhaps that was exactly the target choosen by attackers. They shot the heart of our forum and now it is much less attractive for users. If you are forced to store images to some webspace provider, before to post anything, the whole process takes much more time than before (if you wasn't used to store your images in accepted photo storage services). This is very annoying and is taking more time than I expected to be fixed.

That's too bad :(

I have to agree that I also believe our generous picture uploading was great. The pictures on the threads have not lost. There is always the possibility that to move forward may mean starting over again. That would be the nuclear option. I repair computers and sometimes, when they have "Rootkits' and the like, that go even into the drives control circuit board, even into the BIOS, then you have to trash the hard drive, and basically the server blade, and destroy it, a 5 lb. hammer works well, to prevent it from ever being used and spreading the virus. You can think you have the virus removed, and a very small binary code leaves a back door, and the virus is recompiled, and at a time of the hacker's choosing, usually when everything is going great, they attack again.

I truly hope that does not happen. Something has to happen though, and options are running out. I have o idea what's coming, but I truly believe this forum will continue, and living good is the best revenge. I'll be here to pick up the pieces, I know our moderators will be here too, and I suspect that many many others will be here too. Nothing lasts forever, you have a good run, and if you stumble, you get up and keep going. Screw the bastards that think they have done something of importance by hacking a community of good people. They have not diminished the comradeship of the forum, they have only strengthened it.

Thank You all. I continue to hound the owners, but with the knowledge that they are in a bind. Their is much data they must recover, and it is coasting a lot of money. We are talking about taking hard drives apart and running the plates on special machines in "clean rooms", to try and copy the relevant data. This is extremely expensive to do. One bit of dust is equivalent to you standing next to Mount Everest, and when the blade that reads the magnetic plates goes across and hits such a particle, much damage can be done. This is a process that is laborious, and cannot be rushed, and even after doing all that you can, you may still l end up without recovering the data you needed, but you still have to pay the tab for the service rendered, as there is no guarantee of success. I successfully swapped plates from two identical hard drives when one I had gone bad, and the other hard drive had virtually no data on it. I made a clean box, and did it in a very clean environment. I managed to copy all the data, but on the next attempt to use the hard drive, the hard drive failed, "Read Error", as some dust had gotten in their and scratched the shit out of the plates, I could see it when I took them apart. There is no chance of doing data recovery in solid state drives, which is why I don't use them. They have their place the. They are good for mounting the O.S. and any games you play that can be reinstalled, but hard copy stuff goes to conventional drives, and eventually onto DVD discs. I will be installing a Blue Ray drive when I get the money to increase the hard copy storage space. Gotta have a good place to stash that 10 years worth of porn........................only kidding, what I have is a couple of Terabytes worth of models, and all of the family pictures and important documents that I scanned. I have the forum's model database. I will have to add many new models, which is also laborious., in case of massive loss. :)
