I have encountered a lot of parites of many people hard work online latley. Because of this I'm gettign very steamed due to the fact that myself and many other have posted works on the net for others to enjoy with express consent to print as wanted but not to sell fro profit or claim as ones own. Here is an example, Mechwarrior 3 Site, I had been following these builds for a while and enjoyed the various models available. Never being able to post my pics as I had no digital camera to take pics of and scanning to too long, as I had to go get the film developed first. Now I can't even re download if I hapen to lose the files and reprint because of some jerk in another country trying to claim he did nothing wrong. I found another pirate on ebay uk, who posted one of the very well known modelers works up for sale. I kindly dropped the owner a line or two with the link. Still haven't heard anything back yet but, I'm sure it was of some disapointment to them. And, now that means like Zecks' models from the mechwarrior group this other designer may/could end up pulling their works too. That is really annoying. That someone would blatently "steal" someone elses work and then try to make money off of it. The worst part of it they even stole the preview image posted on the designers site, and put it as the pic in the auction. I'm sure anyone that has designed anything that is posted on this site has been pirated by someone somewhere wether you know it or not. I just want to say we need to come up with some way of tagging these files So that when the pirate prints these works and is caught that there is some sort of finger print or id that is attached to the file(s). So that when those files are given up. The owner(s) of these works can Identify who the files came from. I suggest something along the line of processor finger printing like the armadillo software. Where the requestor of the file must give there hardware id to the own to get a cetified key to unlock the file(s). this way the owner could actually record IP, name, age, address, stool sample, retinal scan, first born, last born, or anything else they request too, before giving out the one an only unlock code for the file or app that is made with armadillo or anything similar based on that hardware fingerprint. Anyway I gues that is my Gripe session for now, with a possible answer.
