installing a new motor in my rustler. I was told to go down 3 to 5 teeth. Is this one of those things were I go 18 to 21 (for example), or 18 to 15. Also would it be safe to go with 4 teeth diffrence and be happy in the middle, then adjust from there? any help is good thx.

As a "rule of thumb", If your motor is a 19T than you would 3-4 teeth lower than the number of turns in your motor. Of coarse this depends on the terrain you are running on also.
After you run your rusty with a freshly charged pack, place your thumb on the motor......if you can hold your thumb there for the count of 5 actual seconds your good to go.
If you can not hold your thumb there that long, go to a smaller pinion or larger spur.
