Final (?) Copy

here's a much neater version  My suggestion is to build the model in layers, starting from the front to the back. If any of you need help with construction, feel free to ask me.

Hmmmmmmm

I've never played Halo, but this ship is really fascinating. I downloaded the 3D mesh referenced above, and it's massively high-poly and would take a great deal of work to simplify for a 3D model. Also, I had the same texture issue Gearz reported above - that is, the textures didn't load. I have other tools I could try to convert it though.

The best part about this mesh is that given the detail in it we could build a 1:1 model  (what's the smiley for insane laughter?)

Anyway, the real reason for my post is this. I found several other possible sources of models, but I don't have the inclination to sign up on all the various forums to contact the original authors to try and obtain meshes and/or textures.

If someone else is willing to do some leg work, I will contribute the 3D cleanup work, and then if someone else volunteers to do the unfolding and instructions, we could have a model. Here's links to the other potential sources I found:

Sketchup Model - http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=593817aa4102199aab91c401c1b7d954 - doesn't look too promising re textures and detail. It's in Sketchup format, and also Collada, but I would need these converted to Metasequoia (or some form that it can open like 3DS, lxo, obj etc)

Volunteers?

Well, my teeney-weeney pillar of autumn has gone through another design phase, pretty much becoming an entirely different new model. I made the model about 1.5 feet long, and in Black and white, in order to save ink. I'm still working out the small problems in the model and I will post it for download sometime during the week (hopefully).
