About three or four years ago the NMRA bulliten featured an article on open car loads, and how to secure them prototypically.

The pipe on the CN flat car did not come from Napa California. The pipe came out of Canada, Ontario IIRC.
The box cab on the flat car, is diesel. It is one of the first diesels made. Currently it is in Portola California at the FRRS museum. The flat car is an ex-Army flat car.
