Yes , This car was a testbed full of monitering equipment to test high speed on standard rail.
It was only run a few times and then was returned to it's original RDC configuration.
I think it set a record at the time of 186 MPH.

A fellow called Steamguy, on the Atlas forum, bashed one of those last year. It looked pretty good, too.

That has to be the weirdest railroad picture I've ever seen! I never heard of it before!!! Amazing! Looks like something the Coyote would buy from ACME to use in chasing down the Road Runner!

That would be the perfect description.
I have seen pictures of this car at speed and it looks MEAN and Scarey .
About 30' behind the car all you see is dust and flying ballast.

If you can locate one of the old Con-Cor RDC's it would be the Ideal Kitbash.
First off the units are generally being sold for much less than a Kato one and, If I remember correctly, they ran at a scale 180 MPH
Sadly, I sold my last two off about 3 years ago.

I found these on ebay January 10, 2004. Works out to roughly $60 CDN, $47 USD.
