newbie to n gauge

hi all my name is james in from doncaster, uk iv just started in my first n gauge set up just woundering how do i fit my bachmann controler to the track on the end of the lead to the track it look like they both go on both sides of the track please help i carnt test it because i haven`t got any trans yet

Does the cable for your controller have a flat plug on the end? If that's the case, the plug is designed to fit a Bachmann EZ track terminal section. If you are using any other track, you will have to cut off the plug, and connect the two wires so they each feed each of the two rails.

If you don't have a train yet to test your work, it is wise to get a test lamp with two wires so you can touch them to the rails as you lay your track. A digital ohm meter is even better because it will detect loose joints.
