    Interesting Reading...,

Well, I've been stuffed, sound bited (quoted) and sent off to paper pergatory for an announcement...,

The little secret is the site hasn't even opened yet and the feedback I'm getting is proving to be invaluable in formulating site policy. It isn't as dark as some have pointed out and that others may have read too deeply between the lines. The idea of a trial period sounds like an interesting idea with the caveat that you don't have to join to view and enjoy the site.

Some of the language was a tad stilted but the intent was not malicious and not meant to turn anyone away, if it did I apologize.

    Best regards,

I'm pretty damned sure I understand what, and why your motives are Gil, and more power to you I say.

I'm guessing, and I'm only guessing here, but you don't want people logging on to the forum for no other reason, than to tell you how miserable their life is, and how you should praise them, so that they can sleep better at nights and feel really good about themself.

Oops, sorry about that previous comment, I forgot to take my Efexor tablet last night. It's my pharmacist's fault, not mine, please note.

I have ocassionally thought of pulling off the thread I started, except there are people here who appreciate it, so I continue.

I have received plenty of help from members of this forum, both directly and indirectly, and I feel it only right that I return the favour.

    Good luck and regards,

I am sure your intentions were the very best. I agree with some of the views, though (for example Eric´s) that it would be counter-productive to exclude people that could contribute with new and fresh views and approaches. It is in the intense co-operation and brainstorming of the many that the best ideas are born.

Otherwise, I feel that the idea of a streamlined forum with just aviation from a certain era or period is excellent. Those willing to participate I am sure are qualified enough.

    Best regards,
    Bengt :D

Having people support your efforts can be very rewarding. Nit picking (for me) has a exponential negative effect. I can understand Gil's intentions. I stopped my project after being discouraged over some comments which were "not well informed". I may have speculated or been really enthused but sometimes you just want input on the model, not someones political or non-contributive remark. If you are reading these posts for suggestions , it would be nice if all could view the forum and download anything that was freely offered. Uploading could be done to a moderator who could determine if the suggestion or opinion is relevant. Most websites I have found that offer models offer models and instructions and do not entertain one's ramblings. I really do like this forum. I would check out yours if I could, even if I couldn't join. I like information, I don't belong to every website I have gleaned information from. I think by announcing it here maybe Gil was looking to see if there were people here interested in it's concept.

This is beginning to sound like a victims' support group for people prepared to attack and dismiss others but not to admit that they got things wrong and were themselves obnoxious.
There are forums that have tried to be exclusive. Traces of them are becoming ever harder to find. They tend to be places where the sunshine is limited.

    Rather my point.

Nice to hear from you Maurice. You are one of the reasons I stopped work on my model. I have read many of your posts and feel that attitudes like yours are part of the problem on this website. I know I am obnoxious, do you know that you are too? Good Luck Gil on whatever you decide, some hard to find websites are the best ones.

Hmmm... Interesting idea. I like the idea that it would be limited in focus, and the area of special interest sounds like fun. I can see other's points, but hey, if they want to do it, I'd be interested.

Yeah right. My worry is that you might actually believe that.

I think moderated membership can be a good thing if handled properly. Everyone seems to be jumping to conclusions that they know exactly how Gil and company (no idea who else is involved but have a fair idea) are going to handle membership. I dont even know for sure if they know how they are going to do it. I personally like the idea of having it moderated (to a point) My thoughts on how it could be possible and still have a thriving community....

Gil knows a few people that would be a good fit for the forum he is working on constructing (I would assume anyway) and they would get invites right off. The entire forum would be available for viewing by guests but posting would be allowed only to registered users. Say billybob is a registered user and he knows jimmyjohn is really into triplanes so he shoots jimmyjohn an invite. Since jimmyjohn got an invite from a member he would get expedited membership although he would still need to do the same step as the non invited person. Say I am browsing the web and I come upon this site that is great! I cant get in to post and want to.... I click on the link to sign up. Rather than just bam, being registered they fill out a quick question - why do you want to be a member here? Simple as that. A mod or admin takes a look and thinks - hey this guy went to the effort to actually say what he loves about these planes or what he wants to contribute! But then we got Jonesy, he browsed around found the site and signs up. He puts in his application and say I want to join cause I heard you have some good downloads. (yeah I just made it up - its getting kinda late for me) ;) the mod takes a look - nope sorry.

Of course this is just my idea, I am sure some might like and I am sure some wont. There is a most excellent possibility it wouldnt work at all because I just thought it up today and have not had anyone cross examine my thought process. I am sure I made some glaring error. I am saying that it could work. Gil is not an evil guy out to disclude anyone. I dont recall him saying anything about not allowing guests to read the forums. Course maybe that is their intention - I dont know. Its not my place to guess their intentions either. I want to see what they come up with before I condemn their idea. I have a feeling that one of the other members was a founding member of this site and has a good idea what he is doing I could be wrong there too - about who it is but I recall he was on here a couple months ago saying he was considering just such a website.....

So Gil - please do create your website. Run it how you want to run it - it is yours anyway. If its done well, it will work.

My worry is that you might actually believe that.

Ask him if he'll let me in.

Oh and check the meaning of disclude, assume you meant exclude. :)

Ok, I should not put in my two cents but here it is. It's like I saying I want to have a town meeting on the interent, but I want to stay focused on what is best for our town, to have everyone in the world involved with local topics would lead you no where, because they live somewhere else. Hope that makes sence.

Actually, disclude, to shut apart, seems rather appropriate in this case. I hope your being facetious about Gil being evil, I, being an obnoxious person knows another when I read him, but I never have read anything here that would make me think any of us were evil. I am happy that you worry about being "one of the reasons". It was a very small reason. I actually haven't stopped, I wish to design a more detailed frame work as I have obtained the blueprints to ESKA-2. Sometimes negative people do not realize the effects of what they write. You could be right but if you come across like a jerk, well I guess the rest is obvious. You are correct Maurice, thanks for pointing it out. You weren't "The Reason" I stopped. Worry no more! If I do continue my build just do me a favor, don't read or post on it, as one obnoxious person to another.

Obviously it was a humourous play on my use of the words in my previous post.
Not being prepared to see things in exactly the way you do makes me neither negative, obnoxious nor a jerk.
I leave all that to the specialists.

Oh and there is a distinction to be drawn between the origin and the meaning.
Main Entry: discludePart of Speech: vDefinition: to disclose, make known Etymology: Latin discludere 'to shut apart'
