Hi, call me'Virginian, though I've lived in California for most of the last 30 plus years. I was born in Roanoke, Va., the grandson of a Locomotive Engineer. Granddaddy Bill ran on both the Virginian and the N&W for about 40 years, ending in the late 60s..I witnessed the transition from steam to diesel from a front row seat in Roanoke and in The Seat in Mullens, WV.
Just starting to research building N layout of my Granddaddy's runs for those roads..been along time comin' and I've got a lot of catchin' up to do. Anybody have anything to share, real road or model wise? I've learned a lot in a short while and I'm remembering lots as I search...my era is..about 1950 to about 1964 or a little later. Thanks, the
    Virginian

Howdy I model some VGN in N. I have two
brass FM Train Masters painted in VGN and
just picked up all 3 new Atlas FM Train
Masters. About 7-8 years ago I picked up
the Atlas/Samhongsa N USRA 2-8-8-2 lettered for VGN but not sure how accurate that model is. In 1986-87 I had a friend make up an AA
a set of VGN EL-2B electric locomotives --
these were made by GE in 1948 and had four
    4-wheel trucks under each unit.

The Virginia Tech Library has an on-line
searchable photo archive of the N&W historical records....these are mostly B/W
    photos....at this URL

A search on the word Virginian will
    turn up over 50 photos

I have downloaded a lot of VGN info from the
WWW and will be happy to share it with you.
