Mad Hatter & Alice in Wonderland / scale 1/20(?)

Mad Hatter is a character of the stories of Alice in Wonderland. He's such a bad singer that the Queen as a punishment for making her wasting her time, doomed him to live eternally the same hour, tea time.
In this version, Mad Hatter is a steampunk robot serving cup of after cup of tea to a mesmerised Alice that hardly sees where she's heading. The huge hat has a mask with a narrow field of vision.
I see it as an allegory to the present times were we are active "doing things", but no clue about the purpose of them. Alice just goes after the tea pot, others go after another pot....

The resin kit of Alice/Mad Hatter is straight forward. I used Vallejo acrylics.
The mushrooms and the tree house were made of modelling caly Das Pronto. The tatched roof is made with linseed strands still to water tight joints in plumbing, old style.
The base is polyurethane foam covered by a mix of real dirt and coffee powder (used, dried coffee powder...).
The foliage is a home brewed concoction of oreganos, lichens, synthetic foliage and some tiny branches.

The details in the mushrooms were made with insulation foam.

After sealing the details in foam with a general amount of PVA glue, the mushrooms were airbrushed

The tree house was a last minute addition. Used some old N scale windows and made a roof of heavy cardstock and
linseed strands - those used to waterproof plumbing joints, old style.

To make things more surreal, I built a tiled pavement.

The foliage is a home concoction of dried oreganos, lichens, several types of commercial foliage and tiny broken branches

I have to say that this is a most interesting project! You did a fantastic job on it. The details are AMAZING! I like the look of the mushrooms and how you were able to paint the tops with the fading colours. They look like "real" mushrooms.

I find it amazing you can post pictures "bigger than life", and the models/diorama looks flawless. Not easy to pull off. That is talent and experience in a rhythm of visual splendor, a frozen piece of time!

Well Zathros, let's hope the juri in Montijo / Portugal, next September feels the same. I'm going to participate in a competition, something I'm not doing in at least 8 years...
