What engine is a good puller and still affordable, say under $200?

I'm no G scale expert but I do own an Aristocraft 'Lil Critter' that I run around the christmas tree. It seems bullet proof to me, and I have heard generally very good things about Aristocraft locos.

Other quality locos are USA Trains and Hartland locomotive works. Bachmann also makes some G scale products but I don't know about their quality...

Some things to ask yourself- are you modelling narrow guage (1:20) or standard guage? Steam or diesel? For that price point you are not likely to find much beyond small switchers (which ain't a bad thing). Pick up a copy of Garden Railroading magazine and check the large discount retailers that advertise inside you might find some good deals

    Happy rails...

I have several used RS3s for sale at about half the price you suggested. Send me an email and I can reply with details.
