I have an ancient roman coin set in a ring. I am able to take a picture of it.

    Set your cam in macro mode (a flower option) this will let you take very close photos.

    Place it in a flat one color surface. try to contrast the color with the ring. Use directional light toward the ring. Take as many shots as you like til you can select one that you like.
