A simple question, How long do you run your loco's ? Time wise that is. Do you give them a rest now and then or do you run them for hours and hours? Can running them to long burn them up?

They should be able to run for lonperiods of time, but then they will need more frequent maintenencing, lile oiling. You should not have to worry about how long they run. Anybody correct me if I am wrong.

I have a couple of small steamers that warn not to run them too long at a time.
Some of the others can go for almost a full day at a show with no problems. They should be checked for heat every so often; feel the body where the motor is. If the body shell starts to deform, it's gotten too hot.
