Hi Folks,

I am scratch building this model and the shell is ready to paint.

I think it is 1306 B C Electric, as I have researched all I can to make sure.
Texas Electric was an other option but I could not find a picture with the same front doors.

So the problem is paint colours.
I know I could try and match it, but would like the right paint if possible.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Tractionaly.

Chris.

Chris, I can't tell you the "correct" colours, but I will offer my opinion on colour matching.

Suppose in a perfect world you could get the exact paint that was used for the prototype. On the model it's going to look darker because of the "scale effect". In real life, there is always some atmospheric perspective, which makes things look duller, lighter. The there's the difference between real sunlight and layout lighting.

To get a model to "look" like the real thing, the paint has to be a couple shades lighter. I have this problem with CP grey - always looks too dark to my eyes when compared with prototype photos.

Then you have the effect of paint fading over time to consider. My advice is to go ahead and pick the colours you think match the photo you have.

BTW - nice looking unit!!!!

Just so the list knows (I sent the info to Chris earlier this week) the colours are:

Exterior: Medium dark vermillion with off-white trim and gold lettering.
Underbody and fittings: black
Roof: tan
Doors and sashes: cherry

Interior: dark mahogany with cream ceiling with dark green trim and arm rests

Source: October 1973 Traction and Models

Many thanks Bill,
Possible colours could be otained by=-

CREAM- Humbrol #41 plus a little #103 Lining Cream added.
RED- Accu-Paint #AP10
TAN ROOF- Humbrol #26 or #29
WINDOW SASHES- Patra #M19 Terra Cotta or Red Oxide Primer

I will experiment soon.

I will build my second coach soon so that when the colours are mixed I will have the two car bodys matched.
