I too have done a bit of working with plastic models and even had classes for kids for many years to help them read the instructions that came with the plastic models and then help them put them together... but I find it more fun to work with paper models.

Welcome Spiros! It's the model, not the material. You'll find paper just like any other modelling material - except it is cheaper and the printed graphics beat any of my painting attempts. It's also a lot like scratch building - and gives you that flexibility.
