Hello from a newbie! (and help needed too...)

    I have been making card models since I was 9. My favorite one being "Build your own statue of liberty". I still have a copy with me, although it’s not available on the market anymore.

    Only recently I decided to make my own models. I am already familiar with Maya. So I can model. I am looking something in the lines of surfmaster to unfold my 3D geometry...but something I can afford without selling my kidneys.

    Please tell me which is the best software for this purpose. I saw this post:

    But I think it’s only for 3D UV unwrapping...not for geometry unwrapping. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Hello, I use Maya also. You can see some of my work at http://www.pixelkeg.com .

    I usually use a program called pepakura to unfold models. I'll see if I can find the link, but it is in this website's link page.
