I know I am a day late, but Happy Birthday America!
Teaser! What can you tell us about the train in that photo?
No kidding! That caught my eye and I want to know more!
ok ok ok... Back in 1976, when America was celebrating it's 200th Birthday. The Rock Island Railroad ran this special passenger train around the Chicagoland Area. Here's a photo of the locomotive before it was painted Red-White-Blue! I just wished someone made a model of it. Maybe I can talk to my RITS friends about that!
Cool! Masking off to paint the star wouldn't be tough but you'd have to mess with fonts to create a decal for the "Independence" lettering. Is there some sort of graphic beyond that at the back end?
Here's another picture of the "Independence". Sorry to say this locomotive was scrapped in 1978. (
One last thing. That top picture I made into my 4th of July wallpaper for my deskto!
I'm not very "up" on my passenger diesels -- is this an E-6, E-7 or ???
It's an E8 but don't quote me on that one!
This was the only Rock Island cab unit to receive "The ROCK" lettering, correct?
Yes it was...
If only, like Conrail, they'd managed one in blue...
