What to expect at the Expo?

It is in Portland this week end, but I couldn't make it on Saturday. I'll try to get out today.

Besides having some trains running, will there be lots of vendors to talk to, or is it more local hobby shop people?announce1

Should I take lots of money, because there will be once in a life time deals?

I attended the Great Train Expo Show in Novi Michigan this past weekend. I was really disappointed in the layout displays. They had only one N scale and one HO scale layout. That was it. I've been to the show the last five years and I seem to remember more displays than that. Does anybody know the reason for this? Maybe someone out there has been involved with this show before and can explain it to me.

I have to agree with you Christopher. I went on Saturday and was quite dissapointed with the number of layouts that were there. As far as the dealers that were there, well that was kinda crappy too. Lots and Lots of HO, barely any N Scale dealers. It wasn't as good as it's been in past years. I did pick up some flyers for some upcoming train shows in the metro detroit area so hopefully those will be better.

I was there on Saturday also - I agree with your comments. I did find a few N scale goodies, but it took a lot of digging! Still, even attending a train show that is not the best, beats most other things!

I did make it out on Sunday for a couple of hours.

There were about 10 layout running, a couple of N, some larger scale, but most were HO. They were all local clubs with portable layouts, I think.

Lots of people selling stuff (mom and pop operations), some LHS were represented, but no Manufactures that I could tell.

I was able to talk to a couple of people about DCC (still in education mode here). I parted with some of my money for a couple of small items, but didn't see any supper deals. I also found a book by a local author about NW logging in the early 1900s that I paid $20.00 for. Lots of great pictures and captions, but very little written about the history.

As w8jy said it better going to this that anything else that was going on Sunday afternoon.
