I would like to try installing some BLMA fans on two of my engines. They are an older Atlas GP-35 and a newer Atlas GP-38. Does anyone know what size fans I will need for these engines? The 35 has three larger fans and one smaller fan. The 38 has three fans which appear slightly bigger than those on the 35. Thanks for any advice.

The 38 and 35's larger fans are 48", the smaller one on the 35 is 36". I'm assuming these are N scale locos?

The GP35 has one 36" fan mounted between two 48" fans and one of those three is for the turbocharger. The single 48" fan closest to the front is for cooling the dynamic brake system.
on units not equipped with dynamic brakes, this fan in missing.
On the GP38 there are two 48" fans at the rear used for regular cooling and air supply, but, as the unit does not have a turbocharger, the third fan is not required and, if you install a third 48" fan (and turbocharger, along with longer side grills) on the unit, it now becomes a GP40.
Again, the single fan closest to the front is for the dynamic brake and would be absent on non-dynamic brake units.
