hey folks:wave: I'm UP SD40-2(Deanotooth1 ), you might remember me from such threads as "Layout Progress & Engine Pics" and "Tip on Decoders/Sound Decoders...", WELL, I'M BACK!;) tooth1 :D . i felt i had to shut my "other" thread down for a few reasons; #1 the thread had just plain got WAY to big, and if it had gotten ANY bigger i fear NO ONE would take the time to read it, and would miss out on some REALLY NEAT STUFF that the thread had in it. #2 the "layout Progress" was finished:thumb: . SO, i have decided to start a NEW THREAD:thumb::D. announce1 I have two main objectives in this NEW thread:D ; #1, like the old thread, i want those that participate/follow this thread to feel like they are right here with ME, in MY living room, workbench, layout, or perhaps rail fanning with me, or taking a trip to my dads, discussing TRAINS, and MODEL RAILROADING;) . #2, I am taking EVERY engine i have, and doing a FULL DETAILING(except weathering the shells:rolleyes:tooth1 )on each of them before i post them(49 so far):thumb: . my plan is to make ALL my engines as close to the prototypes as i can;)...though I DO NOT consider myself a "rivet counter"tooth1 . WHY AM I DOING THIS? well, my FAVORITE part of this GREAT hobby is collecting engines!:thumb::D . announce1 ANY COMMENTS or CRITICISM IS WELCOME!:thumb: OR, perhaps you feel compelled to post pics of YOUR work, and would like to discuss it, PLEASE DO SO!:thumb: :D. announce1 TO BEGIN OUR JOURNEY, since i am UP SD40-2, lets start out with one of my finished UP SD40-2's:thumb: . the first pic shows the engine "out of the box"(minus the sun shades), the second pic is the prototype, the last pic is the model "finished". the model is made by Kato, i installed LokSound in it, i added 7 decals to it, put hoses on it, sun shades, MU holders, some paint work and weathered the bottom half of it:thumb: . THANKS!:D -Deano View attachment 29432 View attachment 29433 View attachment 29434

Finished Engine #2

the 2nd engine i have finished is my UPY MP15DC:thumb: . i have done this engine up to match the MP15's that are in Janesville WI., though i did NOT change the number on it. I rail fan these about every other weekend:thumb:. the first pic is of the engine "out of the box". the second pic is the prototype. the rest of the pics are of the engine finished:thumb: . the engine is an Atlas with QSI, i relocated the horns, installed a rotating beacon, firecracker antenna, added 9 decals, put all weather windows on it, detailed the hoses, weathered the bottom half, painted over the rear stripes and put on stripes where UP has them:thumb: . THANKS!:D -Deano View attachment 29442 View attachment 29443 View attachment 29444 View attachment 29445 View attachment 29446

Man, I gotta stop looking at this stuff while I'm at work. It's almost like looking at porn ... not that I know anything about that ...

Miles, Josh, viperman and LoudMusic:wave:, THANKS GUYS! GLAD TO BE BACK!!!:D :thumb: :D . **viperman, the switcher i had done for my dad was a CNW(pics below):thumb:. my dad IS NOT into UP, don't get me wrong, he DOES NOT hate up, just doesn't model UP;) . dads CNW MP15DC was bought by ma for dads birthday, it didn't come with sound. i bought an MRC Brillance sound decoder and installed it for him, put the engine together, did some paint work, installed all weather windows and a firecracker antenna on it:thumb:. THANKS! for the complements Josh:D . i am going to try and post the engines i can as i have(out of the box, prototype, then finished model), problem is, i wasn't smart enough to take pics of all of my engines "out of the box":( , and ALL of my engines are in various degrees of completion, some more so then others;) . but i will post a prototype pic with EVERY finished engine:thumb: . THANKS! :D -Deano

Canada, eh?
Nice work, Dean, as usual. Matching a model to a prototype, whether a locomotive, a car, or a structure, can be a very satisfying task, and each model becomes a snapshot of a point in the prototype's history. By the way, I like the format that you've chosen to show the pictures.

I'll take that as a yes. Even though I have no use for a switcher, I want one of those MP15DC's. I'd want one in green and white though :thumb: not that there is anything wrong with UP, love them too!

3rd Engine Finished! UP's Elite Switchers

well folks, this makes 3 down, 46 to go:thumb: . this one is a model of one of UP's modern ELITE switchers:thumb: . its an SD38-2, many of the SD38-2's UP has, have been converted to SD40-2's. these bad boys are truly, the top of the line in switchers, they come with AC units, lolly pop antennas, GPS, DUEL rotating beacons, and some even have dynamic brakes!!!:thumb: if i were a switchman, THIS is the engine i would want!:D these engines are all numbered in the 800 series. i have SEVERAL pics of these, and have drooled over them in Rochelle, all with slightly different roof arrangements. unfortunately, i do not have a pic of #833, but looking at the others i have decided to make it close to #857;) . announce1 **the model is a Kato SD38-2, HERES what i have done; installed LokSound sound decoder, an AC unit, accessory platform, lolly pop antenna, GPS, MU hose holder, hoses, sunshades, 10 more decals, rotating beacons, brackets, some paint work, and weathered the lower half of the engine:thumb::D . **announce1 sorry folks, i do not have an "out of the box" pic of this one:( . the FIRST PIC is of the engine with just sunshades on it, and some lower weathering, OTHER THEN THAT, its as it was "out of the box". the second pic is ONE of the prototype pics i went off of to do this model;) . the rest of the pics are of THE FINISHED MODEL:thumb: . THANKS!:D -Deano View attachment 29499 View attachment 29502 View attachment 29503 View attachment 29504 View attachment 29505
