Watched the movie "Emperor of the North" ( Lee Marvin & Ernest Borgnine ) this morning on TV; a story about a hobo who rides a freight train during the depression. There is a marvelous shot of the train at the very beginning of the movie. Talk about black smoke just for effect! It looked like a 2-8-2 locomotive but I am not sure. Maybe someone can tell me more about that steam engine. And does anybody know where the name "hobo" came from?
