You can't beat the sound of an EMD 567 and coupled with the sight of a bulldog body it makes for sensory overload. Then make the body a double-ended bulldog, and that's what passes the end of the road where I live 3 times a day.
After our rail system was privatised in Victoria not so long ago the West Coast Railway started powering their pass trains with EMD AL1 and ML2 export model locos, still with the original 567-series prime movers. A magnificent sight!
But to top that every saturday morning from April to November, (Our out-of-fire-danger season) the passenger service is hauled by a 2200 rail horsepower Hudson oil-fired steamer. Makes the roughly 160 mile trip in about 3 hours, with half a dozen stops thrown in.
If I can figure out how to post a photo I'll bung a couple into a post.
Rgds.
