good for you. mine came on the very first day. I think it went to gasoline, bills, food... oh, and I owed my dad about 500 bucks.

I just heard on NPR this morning that consumer spending is up less than 1/2 of one percent this quarter, about equalling the inflation rate. According to that stat, seems like most arent spending their check.

From my two-day-a-week, part time work at Wal*mart, seems most are buying new tires, and putting the rest in savings.

I think the idea that the $$ would be a stimulus for the economy was misguided, at best. Most folks are so up to their necks in debt, that most of it is going into paying out SOME of that debt. The economy was hyper-stimulated by the "easy money" attitude of the market place. It's pay-back time....

They're probably saving it for the next dozen or so gas hikes coming up.

Not a bad idea since I recently read that ths US savings rate is barely above 0%.

The rate on pass book savings at a bank is generally below 1% in the US, but there are better options. I have mine in a liquid asset account with my stock broker. The interest rate varies with money market rates, but right now it is at 2.70% with a $100.00 minimum balance. There are some on line banks offering better rates with online savings account, but you have to be careful. Washington Mutual offers 3.3% online, but it is a certificate of deposit account that has to be left for a minimum time period or face penalties.
  16. I used most of mine for bills, but I did use a porting of it to "stimulate" the economy and support local business - and walked out of my LHS with a shiny new Athearn Genesis SD75I decorated for BNSF.

Part of mine went for a proto2000 GP7, the rest got sent to the oil company so that I can make sure the boss doesn't take a cold shower.

Could our friends south of the border please explain what an "Economic Stimula Check" is ?
Is it the check you get after filing your income tax form ?

No, it's a one time bribe because we've spent so much on Iraq and $1500 toilets that our economy sucks. So the idea is if you toss a few hundred dollars to every one they'll spend it and business will pick up, or at the least you'll be less bitter because your uncle gave you some money.
