    Neck Parts

    Hi Paul,

yes I got the neck parts, and I will be printing out the template tomorrow.

I have a access to plotters at work as well if you need any prints to larger diagrams that I can mail in a tube to you.

I am thinking of making a small English Wheel to form the front domes of the helmet.

I was also thinking I could use stainess steel and buff it out as well

I will try both types of materials and see which one buffs out better to decide which to build the costume from.

if you need any help with the rest please let me know.

    Thanks again

I'd like to lay one of these out in card stock and build it up in fiberglass. Any chance of getting a copy?

BTW did anyone else see the "old school" Cylons in *Razor* last night? I laughed my butt off. I was like "Oh Yeah!"sign1

    Neck Piece Done!

    Hey Bazookajo....

    Neck piece is finished!

    NOW WHERE"S THE BACKPACK??????????????

Seriously. Tell me you're developing it as we speak. No, tell me it's developed and I can start Beta building it. If not, I'll help! Are you using Meta/Pep to develop, or doing this by hand? With the references on we seriously need to finish this set.

Can you tell I'm jazzed?

    Okay, now for feedback.

Well designed, as was the helmet. Was a little puzzled by lack of instructions, but figured it's Beta... but then found they really aren't necessary. Nice labeling of the parts. Was very easy to assemble. Knocked the whole thing together, from print to finish, in 2 1/2 hours.

    Only three issues I found.

Joiner pieces R1 and L1. Maybe just me, but I couldn't make these fit no matter how I turned them. I ended up trimming off the top edge of each. No biggie, but you may wanna take a look at them.

Former piece(s) M5/M6. Honestly not sure that this is needed, given the card holds the proper shape pretty well. Plus, when the backpack is attached (HINT< HINT) this may be redundant.

Former piece M7/M8. I think the pointy ends of the "U" need to be slightly longer, as they were not long enough to close the entire length of M8's serrated edge where it joins with the tab for R10/L10. (Unless I somehow screwed the pooch on the joining, but I don't think so.) Easily cured by tracing a slightly larger part or trimming off the last two serration triangles.

Other than that, the only other thing is that it now SCREAMS FOR THE BACKPACK!!!!

Oh, did I say that already? :D

Oh, and yes, I'm working on the tutorial to build the LED eyepiece.

I am building it as we speak, and I was wonder if you can take pics of your neck piece

I am thinking of coating mine with resin inside and out when it it complete.

    Another quick note/construction tip:

The entire neck piece was assembled using hot glue. After working on the helmet, I abandoned the superglue (CA) approach and have switched entirely to using my hot glue gun for assembly. No dry time, won't run (if you're careful!), and any little dots or strings pull right off the mirror card.

If you guys haven't tried it, I recommend giving it a shot. :thumb:

    Nice one Ekuth sign1

There's good news and bad news.

The bad news is that I haven't even started the backpack  the good news is I think I may start on it this coming week  .

The whole thing has (and will be) eyeball engineered. The neck was trickier than I thought, as the reference material was not that great, and the shape was more complicated than I thought. Couple this with the fact that I had no actual measurements, and I spent quite a few nights hacking away at cardboard on the living room floor and posing in the mirror with the results

With that done however there should be less posing as the scale will now be dictated by the neckpeice :) - I can just scale up the back courtesy of wegottafindearth:

Ekuth - Your help would def. be appreciated with the beta builds etc. plus I might run some ideas past yourself as to how I might do some of the finer details.

As for the adjustments to the neck plans, could you just screenprint the offending pages, mark the required adjustment in photoshop and PM me with them?

I think as far as the instructions go - all it needs is a front and rear technical drawing and that should do the trick I reckon (I'll sort this out when I get time).

BTW if you or anyone has any decent photos of the 'proper' Cylon backpack (many of the pics are from 1 peice casts) please post them :)

Anyway, I'm definatley inspired by your dedication Ekuth , but if you have an 'other-half' I don't recommend sleeping in it, and if you insist on doing so, don't blame me

I will be in touch

BTW Ekuth - on my current set of Cylon plans I fixed the issue with the top of the eyepeice i.e. the last silver peice above your custome eyepeice (A3).

The new one should cover a little more of the black card above your LEDs.

To fix mine, I just cut that single peice, removed some of the backing to reduce the gsm and stuck it over the top of the old peice.

Again - thankyou for that fix :thumb:

Actually, my other half finds it kinda kinky... but that's another story.

I'd be glad to help. I'm flabberghasted that you've done all this with eyeball engineering and hand-crafting! YOU DA' MAN! Or Cylon, as the case may be.

I'm pretty decent with Metasequoia, if you want I can start to work up some of the bits (like the backpack greebles) and then scale them up to fit with what you develop... let me know, please.

Actually, I've started toying around with the... err... other side of the coin. I figure if we've gotta Cylon, we gotta have a... whups, almost let it slip.

So, with your permission, I'll happily help you develop the rest of the suit.

I'll screenie the offending bits and PM the corrections to you soon.
