A 3 inch rise across 96 inches is not impossible for an HO scale train. You could almost double that rise. While looking at the pics you presented in the beginning, what do you think of the idea of building an additional ramp composed of ascending concentric circiles and housing the whole thing inside of a mountain? You could construct it next to a wall so that back was thw wall. this would give you a maeans for removing the mountain for necessary maintenance.
I really don't want any mountains, I want to keep it all NYC. I'm going to use those two story house fronts along the two sides and rear. I typical elevated in the outer boughs. Thanks for the idea though.
