Crewe Works Open Weekend.

Bombardier Transportation are hosting an open weekend at their Crewe workshops in Cheshire, England. I visited yesterday and thought you might like to see some examples of the locos that were present. Sorry about some of the shots but the bright sunshine was not always a help to photography.

First off is a GWR Prairie tank.

An LMS Jubilee after many years of rebuilding.

A sign of the times. Harry Potter's Hogwarts Express.

An LMS Coronation pacific. This loco hauled the British Royal Train last year when the Queen visited North Wales hence the fancy headboard and the crown above the "Duchess of Sutherland" nameplate.

A SR rebuilt West Country pacific.

A preserved class 40 diesel loco.

A preserved Peak class 45 diesel loco.

One of the specially painted class 47 diesel locos used to haul the Royal Train. This one is named "Prince William"

A Virgin Trains class 57 "Thunderbird" rescue loco. These were converted from old class 47 locos. They are are kept on standby at strategic locations around the rail network to help trains in distress. This one is named "Scott Tracy"........who said the British don't have a sense of humour ?

An LNER preserved streamlined A4 pacific. "Union of South Africa"

A preserved LNER V2 class loco. "Green Arrow"

And finally (for now) a Canadian built GM Class 66 diesel loco operated by the small GB Railfreight company.

Some "Sparkies" for you Chris.
Starting with an EWS class 86 electric about to be lifted.

A Class 87 electric loco repainted into it's original 1970's heritage livery. These locos will soon be replaced on the West Coast Mainline by Pendolino tilting trains.

Another Class 87 special repaint. This time it is the house colours of the leasing company Porterbrook.

A class 92 "channel tunnel" electric freight loco. These locos can operate off the wires or the third rail system in the South of England.

And finally one for the diesel hydraulic fans. A preserved "Warship" and a "Western".
